History of Semarang District

Since the fourth century ago the days Pajang-Mataram, Semarang regency has been with the capital Semarang. In ancient times, "Gemente" (Township) no. Ki Pandan Arang II, otherwise known as Raden Kaji Kasepuhan (1547-1553) was the first Regent of Semarang, was crowned on May 2, 1547, ruling until 1574 and approved by the Sultan Hadiwijaya. At that time managed to create a building that is used as the center of the district. At the time of Regents Governance R.M. Soebiyono, "Gemente (Township)" Semarang born, that right in 1906.


Based Stadblad SO 120 was formed in 1906 the city government. Semarang District Government dipimpim by a regent and Municipal Government for Semarang region led by a Burgenmester. And since that's a separation between the Municipality of Semarang Semarang regency until today.

Under Law No. 13/1950 on the establishment of districts within the province of Central Java, Semarang City designated as capital of Semarang. But the city of Semarang is a self-governing municipalities, in terms of governance Semarang as the capital of the District is less favorable, there arose the idea to move the capital to the city of Semarang District Ungaran which at that time still in Kawedanan.

While to reform, dated July 30, 1979 by the District Head Tk. Semarang II nominated by the Central Government through the Governor, in order to definitively Ungaran City designated as the capital of Semarang regency regency government. And defined by Regulation no 29/1983 on the Determination of Status Ungaran as the Capital City District Government of Semarang regency, which became the opening date of December 20, 1983, which occurred during the reign of Regent Ir. Soesmono Martosiswojo (1979-1985).
